David Leaser’s Palm Trees: A Story in Photographs has received praise from around the world. The book was the first photographic monograph created palms and became a bestseller shortly after publication. Amazon.com ranked it the #1 selling book on palms shortly after its launch, and the book sold out its first printing within 10 months. The book led to book signings, lectures and guest appearances on gardening radio shows, including Garden Compass, the most listened to gardening radio show in the world with more than one million weekly listeners.

The Palms Journal, the membership newsletter of the International Palm Society, reviewed David Leaser’s photographic work, titled Palm Trees: A Story in Photographs. According to the review by Dr. Scott Zona, “David Leaser’s new book, Palm Trees: A Story in Photographs, is brilliant in concept: Show the diversity, beauty and importance of palms through a large-format picture book, let the photographs do the talking and keep the text clean and simple. The book succeeds admirably and resoundingly! It is a large-format “coffee-table book” devoted to palms. It is the sort of book one can dip into at random or read cover to cover. Either way, the book is a treat.”

A book signing for David Leaser’s photographic monograph on palms was among the most successful events held at the Huntington Library, Art Collections, and Botanical Gardens, according Janet Crockett, manager of the library’s bookstore. In just 90 minutes, more than 70 books were sold and signed by the author.

The opening pages of Palm Trees: A Story in Photographs (Westwood Pacific, $39.95) show why so many people are enamored with palm trees. The symbols of the tropics, palm trees and the images they conjure up are the antidote to the hectic lives we face.

The Huntington Library, Art Collections, and Botanical Gardens will host a botanical event on Saturday, September 10 to explore the beauty and science of flowers. Titled, “Focus on Flowers,” the event will showcase the artwork of a modern-day botanical artist from Los Angeles who uses photography as his medium. Alongside the artist reception, visitors will be able to experience the extreme detail in flowers using dissection microscopes. The “Focus on Flowers” event will appeal to visitors of all ages.
