Award-winning photographer David Leaser presented a lecture at the Huntington Library, Art Collections, and Botanical Gardens on September 10, 2011 in Friends’ Hall. Title, “Hawaii’s Tropical Gardens,” the lecture included a virtual expedition to paradise, highlighting some of the botanical wonders featured in his book, Tropical Gardens of Hawaii. After the lecture, Leaser demonstrated how to photograph plants using the equipment and techniques employed in his books and gave a special “what’s inside your camera bag” demonstration.
Leaser also presented a slide show from his Nightflowers collection. The Nightflowers collection is on display in the Botanical Building at the Huntington.
David Leaser has authored four books, including two photographic monographs. Leaser’s Tropical Gardens of Hawaii and Palm Trees: A Story in Photographs have received critical acclaim; the latter was also featured at the Museum of Photographic Arts in San Diego. It is open to the public Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from noon to 4:30 p.m. and Saturday, Sunday, and Monday holidays from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Summer hours (Memorial Day through Labor Day) are 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Closed Tuesdays and major holidays.
