Related to sunflowers, gerbera daisies grow in South Africa's Transvaal area, where they carpet the hillsides with their brilliant blooms. Discovered in the 1880s by a Scotsman, the flowers quickly captivated English gardeners, who developed new color variations. They soon became one of the most popular cut flowers for arrangements. The color palette for these flowers is extraordinary, and a bouquet will enliven anyone's day. The bright pink color of the flower in this image was particularly intense. Now that it is captured here, it continues to brighten my day.
